Dressing for summer

With summer in full swing I decided it was time for me to write another season-appropriate post! Unlike the previous post I'll be lumping dressing for the season stylewise as well as weatherwise together into one, because a lot of the style choices I know I make are partially to deal with the weather as well.

Bright pastels
The perfect colours to wear this season are bright fun pastels, or even full saturated colours if you can find them! They're so sunny looking, and the minimal accessorizing that comes with the heat means you don't have to spend any time looking for hard-to-find matching bright green/red/yellow pieces, just pair it with some small haircombs or a hat and sandals as to not overheat.

White
The other and more unexpected summer colour. I love white year round but its especially nice in summer, when it can deflect the harsh sun and actually cool you down. Also, unlike bright colours, a gothic lolita can wear white too without straying too far from her usual aesthetic.

Hoop skirts/low poof/shorts as bloomers
These are just 100% for weatherproofing a not-so-weatherproof fashion. A sweaty bum is the worst summer hassle, nobody wants to deal with that!

Country
What's nice in summer? Sandals. Straw hats. Cotton. And country has all of that, while also looking adorable and polished. A reason to forego a wig in favor of simple braids? Yes please!

Hime
An unexpected one! Hime lolita might not be the first thing you think of when imagining summer garb, but hear me out. Sure, heavy makeup is a blah in the scorching heat. However, parasols, fans, updos, mules and no blouse are veeery nice. A tiara is way cooler than a fabric headdress too!

Parasols
Just....c'mon. Portable shade.

Sailor/mermaid pieces
Invoke the idea of being at the ocean by wearing a sailor outfit! Just be sure to pick a cotton one to easily wash out the sea salt. And as to not overheat. Heatstroke isn't cute!
Alternatively, go the more modern mermaid route with a nautical print and pearls wherever you can fit them.

Big natural fiber bags
A bag big enough to carry your foldable parasol, fan, hand towel, water bottle, slippers and picnic. Be sure to pick one of cotton or linen (or, if you're fancy like that, silk) as to not get sticky sweaty hands and ruin your pleather at the same time.

Summer is probably the worst season for a lolita. If it's cold you can put on extra layers, if it rains you can carry a cute umbrella, but you can't really deal with heat. Truth be told, aside from the occasional meetup, my summer garb usually consists of thin Liz Lisa cutsews and plain jean shorts. Overheating and dealing with being sweaty all day just isn't worth it to me. What about you? Do you do the same as me or do you wear lolita regardless?
