My favourite Lolita brand

Image
Next up on the list: my favourite lolita brand! I'm going to cheat here and not pick one but two, because unlike most lolitas my taste is alllll over the place. So in no particular order, my favourite brands are... AP and Moitié! Was that obvious yet? Can I just say that I love how much those logos clash? It's hilarious. Somehow, despite my main style being oldschool, I don't actually like oldschool AP or Moitié that much. Oldschool Moitié is pretty, sure, but for whatever reason it never manages to scratch my oldschool itch like some 2002 Baby would. Old AP does have nice designs, but they tend to use lace that I just really don't like, and lace can really make or break a piece for me. Plus, they made some really questionable Baby replicas back in the day which...no. So why do I like these brands specifically? Well, to me they're quintessentially "lolita". When I think of sweet lolita I think of 2010 Angelic Pretty, and when I think of gothic lo...

My wardrobe turnover

Image
The next part in the 52 posts challenge! This one is 'my wardrobe turnover', or a time you changed out part (or all) of your wardrobe. I've had a few of these! Not in the sense of "actually selling off chunks" because I love my pieces too much and I think a lot before I buy anything, but in the sense of changing what aesthetic I look for in it. For this post I've gone way back and tried to find the very images that inspired me back then, so you really can get a look into my head! I hope you enjoy! Wardrobe goals #1: Goth When I started out in lolita I was a (horrible) mallgoth and I wasn't looking to get into lolita at all! I happened to stumble upon a post by F Yeah Lolita about adding lolita bits and pieces into a gothic wardrobe and I was super intrigued by the fancy look it gave. I started slowly dreaming of a gothic lolita wardrobe. I was only 15-16 at this point so my taste was....not great lol. That bodyline skirt I especially lusted after......

Favorite thing to put on my head

Image
The next post in the challenge is one I love, my favourite thing to put on my head! That's a total no-brainer for me, it's rectancle headdresses. I have a load of hair accessories, from barettes to ful sized headbows to veils, but none make me feel as pretty and 'me' as a rectangle headdress. I got interested in them when I was still researching lolita as a style, it was this post in particular that piqued my interest. All I'd seen up to that point were head-eating bows, and these headdresses were so different. They were cute, but also feminine and toned down, and I absolutely loved the lace used on the ones Caro picked. I immediately dreamt of having a collection like that! When I went to my first meetup a short while later, which was a swap meet, I told myself I wasn't going home without one. I ended up buying this Victorian Maiden one. It ended up being the hardest headdress I would ever own to coord, because of the white X offwhite colourway and the Alic...

What my own Lolita lifestyle is like

Image
So the next topic in the 52 lolita posts challenge is what my own lolita lifestyle is like. Before I start on that though, I'd like to touch on lolita lifestyle as a whole, or the lack thereof. Lolita doesn't have a strict lifestyle like many other alternative subcultures. Ask a goth what the gothic lifestyle is like and they'll probably tell you something along the lines of "listen to gothic music, visit goth clubs, wear a gothic style and have a spookily decorated house". As a lolita what the lolita lifestyle is like, and you might get answers ranging from "there is none" to "living in a cottage in the woods and baking cookies in your Angelic Pretty finest". There is no defined lifestyle, made more difficult by the vast differences between sweet, classic, gothic and the many little substyles of lolita. Because of this, I'll be looking only at things in my life that I think fit with a lolita lifestyle. Maybe you'll agree with me or...

5 pieces any lolita wardrobe should have, regardless of style.

Image
Here it is, the first post in the 52 lolita posts challenge! The topic is 5 things every lolita should have regardless of style, but I ended up with six. Not a problem, I think! 1. A white peter pan-collared blouse This is just such a staple! There's something undeniably lolita about a peter pan-collar IMO, and white is a super versatile colour as it goes with just about any other colour you can come up with. Especially in oldschool I consider a nice peter pan blouse to be a total must-have. Of course in gothic lolita you might be better off with a black one, but a white one is still very usable for when you want to lighten up a coord a little, or for days when you feel like wearing something that's undeniably lolita rather than goth. 2. Pearls  Be it bracelets or necklaces or strings to pin into your hair, pearls are ubiquitous these days, especially with the whole mermaid trend that's going on. They're super versatile and classy and they come in...

5 bands for lolitas

Image
Total false advertising, I've never listened to Mois Dix Mois! Sooo...the original theme for this post was "5 movies for lolitas". However I'm not much of a movie person at all! The ones I do like tend to be action movies or guilty pleasure movies that are so bad they're good, so not a lot of material to make a "movies for lolitas"-post with. So, I decided to switch from movies to music, it's close enough, right?? Because I did actually try to make a post about movies, I do have one recommendation, namely Murder on the Orient Express . It came out last year and a friend and I went to see it in cinema, and I liked the vintage feel of it a lot. It's by no means some kind of masterpiece but it's very enjoyable for a movie night! Apparently some people are irked that it doesn't do justice to the original book, but admittedly I didn't know it was a book adaptation when I went to see it so I can't give my opinion on that. No...
